Localising the SDGs: What Faith-Driven Development Looks Like

August 4, 2026
The Sustainable Development Goals will not be achieved in conference halls alone. They are won in communities - and faith institutions are among the strongest vehicles to carry them there.

The Sustainable Development Goals can feel distant - seventeen global ambitions negotiated far from the communities they are meant to serve. But the SDGs are not achieved at summits. They are achieved when a girl stays in school, when a mother can reach counselling and care, when a dispute is settled justly, and when no one in a household lives in fear.

Why Localisation Matters

Localising the SDGs means translating global goals into local action - in the language, institutions, and daily rhythms of a community. In Osun State, few institutions reach deeper into daily life than communities of faith. That reach is a development asset.

Our Focus

WHD concentrates its faith-driven work where we can move the needle furthest:

  • SDG 3 - Good health and well-being, through awareness creation, counselling, and faith-based support systems.
  • SDG 4 - Quality education, through enrolment support and empowerment initiatives.
  • SDG 5 - Gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.
  • SDG 16 - Peace, justice, and strong institutions, through dialogue and advocacy with religious and community leaders.
  • SDG 17 - Partnerships, because none of this is achieved alone.

Anchored in equity, integrity, accountability, and collaboration, we are building a model of development that is faith-informed and people-centred. Join us.
